Reid to Bush: Don't Fill It Up - Amendment to stop acquisitions for Strategic Petroleum Reserve passes Senate

The U.S. Senate voted today to attach Senator Harry Reid’s (D-NV) amendment to S. 2284, to “increase the supply and lower the cost of petroleum by temporarily suspending the acquisition of petroleum for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve,” by a 97-1-1 (not voting) margin. [rc 124] Who wasn’t there to cast a vote? Senator John McCain (R-too busy running for President?).

The Senate also passed H.R. 3121, the Flood Insurance Reform and Modernization Act of 2007, by a 92-6-2 vote. The bill includes provisions to make multi-peril coverage available for damage resulting from both wind and floods. Not voting: Senator Inhofe, Senator McCain. [rc 125]

H.R. 980 made it past a Republican filibuster 69-29-2. The bill provides collective bargaining rights for public safety officers employed by “States or their political subdivisions.” [rc 126] Senator Reid voted to invoke cloture; Senator John Ensign (R-NV) voted to maintain the filibuster. (McCain not voting)
