The Nevada Democratic Party spilled the beans that Senator John S. McCain III (R-AZ) will do one of those now all too common Sneak-Ins to Las Vegas to collect big money on the quiet, and to open the office he will be sharing with Rep. Jon Porter. As far as McCain’s assurances he’d run a clean campaign – except he just can’t control those icky 527s – forget’em already.
Wow! That didn’t take long. No sooner does Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) mention that it isn’t a matter of “if” but “when” the GOP 527s start the smear-mongering than Floyd Brown’s National Campaign Fund pops up with an ad claiming that the Democratic candidate isn’t being honest about his “Muslim past.” [ad link]
Brown served as the executive director of Young America’s Foundation from 2001-2006, and in 1988 as the political director for Americans for Bush, which was affiliated with his Citizens United organization. Brown is still extremely proud of his Willie Horton ad, “widely denounced as racist pandering.” [SrcWtch]
The National Campaign Fund’s chairman is Doug Ramsey, who is also on the board of directors of Citizens United. Citizens United’s online store is operated via DonationReport.com, plus an extension code for Citizens United; this takes the user to eDonation.com, a member of the Donatelli Group. [SrcWtch]
Frank Donatelli, McCain’s choice for Deputy Chairman of the RNC, [Reuters] is currently associated with the McGuireWoods Consulting lobby shop. [McS]
Jim Lacy (Wewer & Lacy LLP) is the organization’s general counsel and treasurer. Lacy serves on the board of the American Conservative Union, and is a member of the Republican State Central Committee of California.
Little wonder Senator McCain “can’t referee” the actions of GOP 527s – his hand picked RNC Deputy Chairman’s group runs part of the fund raising for Citizen’s United, the founder of which is the same person who is running the National Campaign Fund 527 operations.
