Nevada Congressional Delegation Votes In Favor of H.R. 6867: Unemployment Benefit Extension

Nevada Senators Ensign (R-NV) and Reid (D-NV) voted in favor of cloture on H.R. 6867, a bill to extend unemployment benefits in areas of the country hardest hit by the current economic problems. The cloture motion passed 89-6, which prompts the question – Why were Republicans suggesting they would filibuster the bill in the first place? Senators Barrasso, Coburn, DeMint, Enzi, Hatch, and Inhofe voted against cloture. The bill passed on a voice vote in the Senate. [rc 214]

The bill passed the House on October 3, 2008 with a 368-28 vote. All three members of the Nevada delegation voted in favor of the extension. [GovTrack]

As of September 2008, Nevada's statewide unemployment rate stood at 7.3%, with a 7.4% rate in the Las Vegas metropolitan area. Carson City reported a 7.3% rate, and the Reno-Sparks area reported 6.9%. [DETR]
